Just as things were starting to get a little sleepy towards the end of August, the Telluride Film Festival has blown into Telluride like tornado!

This weekend, Telluride celebrates the annual, and world-renowned Telluride Film Festival. Stop by Brigadoon in Oak Street Plaza for information on the festival including movies and show times.

There is plenty going on in the Telluride & Mountain Village area.

Every Friday there is the weekly Telluride Farmers market, where locals and visitors gather to taste the best regional fare. Sweet Palisade peaches, Olathe sweet corn, organic heirloom tomatoes, organic meat & dairy…there is really nothing better than organic, seasonal, local produce!! South Oak Street, 11am - 4pm.

There is also the fantastic Telluride Historical Museum, located on the north end of Fir Street. Learn all about Telluride’s heady mining days, and all of the shady after-dark antics that the town was famous for one hundred years ago. You will be surprisingly entertained!

If all this talk of mushrooms is sounding familiar, then like me, you probably live in Telluride and have been surviving on a diet of fungi for the past few weeks! This year has been one of Telluride's most bountiful mushrooms harvests. Avid shroom hunters have been sliding off into the woods to their secret stashes, returning with backpacks full of fungal delights. Culinary competition has sky rocketed, as friends gather to enjoy the tasty delights of their triumphant find's together. This weekend, Telluride celebrates mushrooms of all shapes, sizes, textures and tastes. There is a mushroom parade, as well as guest speakers and mushroom classes around town all weekend.

The Week Ahead: August 20 - 27

This weekend, the Full Tilt downhill mountain biking event returns to Telluride, as part of the 2010 Mountain States Cup Series.

August 16, 2010 (Mountain Village, Colo.) – Cross-country. Hill Climb. Downhill. Super-D. That’s right, Full Tilt returns to Mountain Village as part of the Mountain States Cup Race Series, the largest full-discipline (endurance and gravity) race series in the United States. As its host, Mountain Village is amped to be stop number seven, August 20 through August 22.

To kickoff the weekend events, riders will compete in the Cross-Country and Super-D races. Then on Sunday, participants will vie for the win in two race disciplines: Hill Climb and Downhill. Both the Downhill and Cross-Country events are qualifiers for the 2011 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships. The cost to compete ranges from $25 to $55 depending on the event, category and class.

It is Friday morning, the sun is shining, and Telluride has officially recovered from the Phish shows on Monday and Tuesday nights. Thousands of Phish fans poured into Telluride and Mountain Village for the long awaited, hot ticketed shows. The weather gave festivalgoers a lucky break - the clouds parted, and the sun shone momentarily for the duration of both shows. Fans were blown away by the beauty of our magical box canyon and organizers, law enforcement and the medical center were all very impressed with how smooth things went!

This week, things are a little more mellow. We have the Telluride Festival of the Arts this weekend.

It feels like its all happening in Telluride this week...

The two big events for the coming week are the Telluride Jazz Festival and the PHISH shows.

The Telluride Jazz Festival is one of Telluride's most prized annual events. Artists this year include Stanley Clarke Band featuring Hiromi; Dianne Reeves; Festival Guest of Honor Toshiko Akiyoshi; The Greyboy Allstars; Hazel Miller; & more. Legendary jam band PHISH will be playing 2 shows in Telluride on Monday the 9th & 10th of August. This event is sold out, but even if you don't have tickets, the spectacle in town is sure to be a memorable one. There are parking restrictions in place, so please be sure to familiarize yourself with these if you will be driving around the Telluride/Mountain Village area early next week. Details of parking can be viewed on the Phish site.

Also, don't miss the Telluride Farmer's Market, on South Oak Street, every Friday from 11am - 4pm. Stop by and taste the sensations of local private chef and catering specialist Blakely Stein, of Eat JB & Me. We are one week away from the Telluride Jazz Festival, however there is still plenty going on in our beautiful mountain town in the coming days...

Despite the afternoon storms rolling in, there is the weekly Telluride Farmers Market today from 11.30-4pm, on South Oak Street. Sample sweet treats from Telluride Truffles, buy local organic produce including meat, poultry, dairy, fresh fruit and vegetables, or enjoy a massage from Chris at Telluride Mobile Massage. The stands at the markets are a fantastic way to connect with local producers and businesses, and a way to get to know some of the fabulous local people that make Telluride such a special place.

Barricade Passes & Parking for PHISH
Details of barricade & parking passes for the upcoming Phish concert have been released by the Town of Telluride. The barricade will go up at 5pm on Sunday the 8th of August, and will be removed on Tuesday the 10th of August. Please note that the barricade passes only allow vehicles into the town of Telluride. Guests who wish to park in town during the festival are required to observe regular parking regulations. Please be sure to order you barricade pass from Telluride Rentals by calling us on (800) 970-7541 and checking how many off street parking spots are allocated to your unit. Summer is in full swing in Telluride! This week in Telluride is the Nothing Festival - the one weekend of summer where there is no festival over the weekend. But if you are heading out with family & friends, there is still plenty of fun to be had!

The weather has been cooperating beautifully over the past few days. We have escaped the afternoon storms, so be sure to get out and enjoy the sun, because in true San Juan fashion, the weather can change in an instant.

As always, there is the weekly Friday Farmer's market. Local growers, producers & businesses have stalls ranging from local fruit, vegetables & meat to jewelry, massage and chocolate!

Telluride Visitor Center has moved!
The Telluride Visitor Information Center is now located at 700 West Colorado Avenue (above Clark’s Market) and open to the public. Please direct all visitors to the new location. Visitor Center summer hours are from 9am-8pm daily.
