With it's inaugural line up to include Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Ben Harper, Los Lobos and many more top acts, Telluride's newest festival, The Telluride Ride Festival, is set to set Telluride on fire this August! Organized to coincide with the Telluride leg of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, the Telluride Ride Festival will be held on the weekend of August 25 & 26 in Telluride Town Park. Two day weekend passes are $87.50 (plus service fees) and go on sale Friday, May 25.

They always say the best snow storms arrive in Spring. The past week had many feeling doubtful that winter had even been here, with temperatures creeping up towards 60 degrees most days during the second week of spring. T shirts and board shorts were making a regular appearance on Main Street, and ferocious google tans were fast becoming become de riguer around town. However today, that's all changed. We have almost racked up a foot of snow in town today, and almost certainly more on the mountain. Never doubt the power of Spring in the Rockies!!

Telluride has been named as one of the top 25 "World's Best Ski Towns' by National Geographic Magazine. Along with internationally renowned spots such as Chamonix, France and Niseko, Japan, Telluride made the cut thanks to it's 'unrelenting beauty', a reputation for steeps & bumps & a funky, historic old town.

We were feeling pretty darn cheeky after 2 feet of snow fell in Telluride last weekend. Then, a surprisingly robust follow up storm swept through town on Thursday night dumping 7" which has us feeling downright spoilt! Skiing conditions could not be any better in Telluride right now. We seem to be bucking the dry trend that the rest of Colorado seems to be suffering through this winter.

Serious snow for Telluride!!!

The wait is over! A dream came true for many anxious skiers this week when Telluride received probably it's biggest dump of snow in the past 2 years. The ski area was hammered with 20" of fresh snow on Saturday night, and a few more inches have fallen steadily over Monday & Tuesday. The flutters are set to continue for the rest of today.

The snowfall could not be better news for Telluride, as Colorado has been experiencing a relatively dry & mild winter so far. This turn around has given locals and visitors a noticeable spring in their step!! Lots of happy smiley faces.

Telluride is blanketed with almost 2' of snow!

Telluride is famous for having no lift lines. But on Sunday morning, as ski patrol struggled to open the mountain under the groan of snow, hundreds of skiers and snowboarders had lined up at the base of Chair 8 and the gondola.The line for Chair 8 was backed right up Kid's Hill. I have never seen anything like it in 4 years!

Telluride is known for 'no lift lines', but this powder day attracted hundreds of eager skiers on Sunday morning!

Of all the major Colorado ski resorts, I think Telluride has to be faring better than most this winter. Despite low snow totals, Telluride Ski Resort is skiing as good as it gets!!

It is no secret that this storm was anxiously anticipated by locals and visitors, after a slow start to the winter ski season. U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge has Telluride on the map for 2012!

Telluride is abuzz with the exciting news that it has been included in the list of host cities for the 2012 U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge. After the slight disappointment of being left off the U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge route for 2011, Telluride has been included as this prestigious event passes through Colorado in 2012. Telluride will feature in stage one of the event next year. On August 20, 2012, world class cyclists will ride from Durango to Telluride before heading further north on August 21.

Pre Season Snow Blankets Telluride!

It really feels like winter is here in Telluride! Just this past weekend, half a foot of snow fell in town, and well over a foot at higher elevations. This coming weekend could possibly bring more snowfalls for the San Juan's. This time last year, we had received very little snow by this point, and definitely no snow that was sticking around. From the snow fall we have had in November so far, cool temperatures have kept the snow in good shape. If the rest of the month continues on this cold, snowy path, Telluride will have a large chunk of the mountain open by Thanksgiving. It is not too often that happens! Hopefully the weather so far is a sign of things to come this winter.

Telluride Rentals is still running the early bird special, although the special has been limited to bookings from February onwards (excluding Spring Break). If you book & pay for a non refundable reservation we will give you 20% off our regular rates. It is always really exciting to have a new rental home on the books, and this month, Telluride Rental's has added C Forever Lodge to our vacation rental portfolio. The master bathroom has a small jacuzzi tub, a steam shower and separate toilet.

In an earlier blog I wrote extensively about one of our Telluride Rental's luxury estates - a home called Castlewood. Castlewood is certainly unique to the Telluride Rental's portfolio. Telluride versus Mountain Village?

Last week I blogged about our new Telluride Rental's video, introducing our staff members and providing an overview of our various roles. We also made another video which shows the difference between Telluride and Mountain Village. We made this video because a question we get asked frequently by prospective guests is: where should I stay, Telluride or Mountain Village? Here is the video, let us know what you think!

There are definitely some notable differences between the towns of Telluride & Mountain Village. Telluride is an old mining town with a quaint, Victorian feel. This is the original town of Telluride, and this is where most of the shops, restaurants and nightlife are located. You can ski into Telluride town, and you can also access the mountain by choosing from 2 chairlifts and the gondola. Town also hosts the summer festivals in the Telluride town park.

Mountain Village is the newer, resort town. Mountain Village is the hub of the ski resort activities, and there are a number of hiking and biking trails that start in the village core. There are several hotels and condo developments in Mountain Village, and this is also where many of the larger private homes are located. Mountain Village is typically busy during the day, and is more quiet at night.

The free gondola system connects the towns of Telluride & Mountain Village, and operates from 7am-12am, daily. The ride takes about 15 minutes.
